DNS Is Critical to Keeping Your Business Running

Every application, cloud service, and digital experience depends on DNS. High-performing, resilient, and secure DNS helps keep critical services available, supports infrastructure change, and provides an important control point for identifying and stopping threats.

Accelerate Innovation

Automate DNS operations and support infrastructure change without creating operational bottlenecks.

Strengthen Security

Protect DNS infrastructure and use DNS intelligence to identify and stop malicious activity earlier.

What is DNS management?

DNS management is the work of running the DNS services an organization depends on: the authoritative and recursive servers that answer every lookup, the zones and records they serve, and the changes, policies and monitoring around them. When it is done well, nobody notices. When it isn’t, applications stop being reachable.

Your Infrastructure Changed. DNS Got More Complex.

Modern infrastructure is increasingly distributed. Applications now span data centers, private and public clouds, SaaS platforms, branches, edge environments, and increasingly AI-driven infrastructure. Different platforms, APIs, and operating models make governance more difficult, while the pace of change increasingly exceeds what manual DNS processes can support.

The result: greater complexity, inconsistent governance, less visibility, and increased risk availability.

DNS Management Questions

What is DNS management?

DNS management covers running the authoritative and recursive DNS services an organization relies on: the zones and records, the servers that answer queries, and the changes, access rules and monitoring around them. In larger estates it also means keeping DNS consistent across data centers, clouds and branches. How DNS works covers the basics.

What is the difference between authoritative and recursive DNS?

An authoritative server holds the records for a domain and gives the definitive answer for it. A recursive resolver answers users’ lookups by querying other servers on their behalf and caching what it learns. Most enterprises run both. More on recursive DNS.

Can SOLIDserver manage the Microsoft DNS and BIND servers we already run?

[Answer from EfficientIP: which servers SOLIDserver manages in place and which it migrates] See Multi-vendor DNS & DHCP Overlay Management, or, if you are replacing an incumbent, Migration from Infoblox to EfficientIP.

Why manage DNS together with DHCP and IPAM?

DNS answers are only as accurate as the address data behind them. Managing DNS, DHCP and IP address data together, as DDI, keeps records in step with the network as devices and workloads change.
